Ivan McDonald is a registered architect in private practice with specialised experience in the conservation of heritage buildings, places and areas. He completed post-graduate study in urban design majoring in urban conservation and has been heritage adviser to Ipswich City Council, Toowoomba Regional Council, Sunshine Coast Regional Council and Noosa Shire Council. He has served on the Queensland Heritage Council and the National Trust of Queensland Council and is currently a member of Brisbane City Council's Heritage Advisory Committee and Independent Design Advisory Panel.
